More
of the Bigger things at The Grand Barn
With the new added
90+ acres, it makes of TGB resort a near 250 acre
domaine where all those "At Ease With
Nudity" can come and enjoy the superlative
freedom that is existant at THE GRAND BARN. Looking
back at 1988, the year in which TGB was acquired, I'm
pleased to say that so much has been done since, so
that our first visitors would most probably not
recognize the place. Myself, Peter Riden, as owner
and chief in command, can say that the presence of
some great supporters, in the initial days, has
indicated to Me that indeed it was a place people
would cherish and make their second home. A very
self-selected crowd we have, I must say. You find the
more high-tech, thinking, and knowledgeable people
coming our way. And their liberalism and love for
freedom is what makes this crowd so different than
what most other places tend to gather.
-

-
Many come for a visit and do not come
back. They don't find the usual ambiance of the routine
of blabbing for nothing at one same spot for few hours.
Everything is giant at TGB from the obvious
Barn-clubhouse of 220 foot long to its territory for
exploration spread on near 250 acres. That means that,
unless you can enjoy TGB for all there is to be seen and
appreciated, you'll not like the efforts demanded upon
you to walk it and discover it by yourself. No other
clubs in the whole of North America, except a few on the
west coast located near giant firs, will offer you the
breath-taking size of trees that can be seen at TGB. But
you've got to walk! If one is the type who stays put and
wants only to sit and do nothing, you might miss such
spectacle. It will also mean that you did not savor this
experimental aspect of TGB. There are many trails that
are bringing you right at the footsteps of those
venerable trees. "Recognition Tree", "The
Mystic", "The Ancestor", "Big
Brother", and most of all "The Portal
Tree" are only a few of the giants you can see with
your own eyes and be impressed with their stature. The
"Back-40" is quite something in what it offers
in sight and a diversity unequalled by any other
camp/resort/club or recreational area.
- That bigger aspect
goes on with an all Peter-made lake known as Desire Lake.
This area has become the fave of our regular visitors and
can be accessed either by walking or driving. Taking into
consideration it has been dug with a backhoe, you can't
expect "Superior Lake", but its 350 foot length
of water by an irregular 200 or so foot wide can give you
an idea of the size. Its natural partly bolder sided
shore adds to the beauty and difference of Desire Lake. A
31 foot bridging structure brings you from Peace Camp to
Lovers' Island. The pier area allows for pedal boats and
other floating structures. Even our Camper~Boat makes an
excellent feature for those who want to experience the
difference at TGB.
-

- We've talked about
the farthest feature but, when coming at TGB, you're
obviously first facing the giant Barn itself. Easy for
you to guess that TGB takes its name from such structure.
Its surrounding has been leveled and landscaped so that
for our earlier pioneer visitors it feels like such a big
contrast from the days where the back was having its
rather tall grass and not much was there in term of
accommodations. The adjacent fields are used for growing
corn so it gives quite a good secluding fence from the
outside world. Not that it's necessary as the distance
from any neighbours is already quite sufficient but for
the more unaccoustomed to be free in the Nude it adds a
sense of accrued privacy. Those fields, at any time, can
be redirected for the purpose of expanding our camping
area. There are 60 acres right there that can be fully
converted into lots for added visitors. Remember, at TGB,
all is bigger and we mean it. There are actually 80 lots
serviceable as of the new coming '97 season at TGB and
much more could be added. For those who enjoy
entertainment, TGB has a stage on its main upper-floor
that matchess the size of other clubhouses in many other
clubs. It's 40 foot wide by 30 foot deep and has a 3
level elevation, the highest standing at 13 feet above
the main floor. Performances can be given, from music
concert featuring the tremendous group *Concept* to other great skilled
musicians. You can have theater acts, video projections,
seminars, comedy and what have you. It's all there for
those who would want to organize such. Also on that main
floor we have the space for sport as some already can
practice their skills in ping-pong, badminton or volley
ball. If it rains,no problems,it's all indoors. A
complete kitchen and bar area to service the main floor
is next on the aganda.
At the moment, our snack bar with full
course meals service is available to all. Many regulars
do enjoy our homey type of cooking. Or you can have litle
snacks here at TGB rather than having to run at the local
store. Joint to this main structure of TGB, we have the
pool and sun-tanning area with plenty of place to sit and
relax. You can either be on our big 100 foot long giant
cement slab or go right on the grass next to it. You need
shadow? You come right under the roof of the pool area.
Our hot tub is a favorite for all regulars at TGB and our
non-excessive temperature allows you to enjoy for longer
time, a practice we're pioneering for the delight of our
crowd. The 2 giant silos are our landmarks to be seen
from far, but take note they are to become inhabited
towers with self-contained unit on each floor and
panoramic viewing area on top of each. Again bigger than
any other structure where one can go nude and free. This
would also implied being open all year round. Something
you may want to check for the future to come.
After reading all this, if anyone can't
see all what's being offered with, it tells you only one
thing. The place is not fit for such person. Considering
that the main rule here is common sense, it should be an
added incentive for the many to come our way. No gravel
roads, we're right by the Trans-Canada Hwy 417, exit 17
Barb Road within a mile from exit on the north side. TGB,
in fact can be seen from the highway 417. Isn't it nice
to not have to go for miles and miles in tortuous roads
but find your way right there.
-
- To conclude on a
most important note, TGB has been the pioneer in giving
access to singles on an equal gender basis undiscrimnate
of status. We are the first but we'll check who'll follow
in our footsteps. Not only allowing singles but being
fair with them. Not, as all others do, charging single
males more than single women or equivalent to couples.
Not here at TGB. A couple means 2 people. When coming at
TGB, that's what we see, 2 people and they pay
consequently. As pioneer, our membership rates do
accommodate other forms of relationships as we are aware
that poly choices are the way of the future. That's why
our policy of equal access fits to all.
-
- If interested to
know about all our prices and a more detailed
presentation of TGB you can check us all on our Website
located at http://the-grand-barn.com As a regular contributor
to Virtual Naturist magazine I'll be glad to pass along
thoughts related to our approach in regard of many
current topics related with being "At Ease With
Nudity".
